Historic fire lookout above Duncan Lake, approximately 2243 meters in elevation. The current tower was built in 1974. Awesome ATV ride up to the lookout tower from Glacier Creek FSR. Panoramic views of Kootenay Lake, Duncan Lake and surrounding glaciers. Looking to the Northeast is Emperor Peak with an elevation of 3127m (10259ft).
Directions: In Kaslo, at the flashing red light, turn left onto A Ave. Near the top of the hill turn right onto North Marine Drive (Hwy. 31) heading towards Meadow Creek and reset your odometer to zero. At 28 km you will reach the village of Lardeau. At 34.5 kms. or (21.4 miles) turn right onto Argenta Road towards Argenta and Johnson's Landing. Crossover the Lardeau River and carry on for approx. 1 km on the dirt road. At the 3-way junction turn left on to the Duncan Lake FSR. Drive for approximately 7 kms. and keep an eye out for Lavina Forest Service Road marker on your righthand side. Turn right onto Lavina FSR and continue on until you come to a large parking lot with a kiosk. Off load your quad here and follow the road to Fire Lookout at the summit. This road is very steep in areas with lots of switchbacks. Elevation is 7280 feet or 2240 meters. GPS at parking lot is: N 50.279807 / W 116.915245.
